Our founding – firsthand
Our idea took shape when Felix and Leo were discussing new applications at the Light Technology Institute (LTI) of KIT. From this emerged the vision to produce thermoelectric heat flow sensors using an affordable screen printing process and make them available for the mass market KIT Founders’ Forge.
Felix and Leo have long complemented each other’s strengths – both personally and professionally. Mofasser brought important expertise in printing pastes as a former colleague of Leo, while Martin initially joined as an external consultant. It quickly became clear that together they would found Varmo Sensors KIT Founders’ Forge.
Challenges and support
Thanks to previous experience as repeat entrepreneurs, we were familiar with founding processes and could largely avoid typical pitfalls. From the very beginning, we were supported by the KIT Founders’ Forge, the AXEL Energy Accelerator, and advising professors – a network that helped us significantly in developing our idea further KIT Founders’ Forge.
One of the biggest challenges was establishing a reliable production chain: manufacturing high-quality sensors at scale and in a cost-competitive way. This was only possible through intensive material testing and close collaboration with our supply partners KIT Founders’ Forge.
What drives us – technology, cost-efficiency, and sustainability
At Varmo Sensors, cost-efficiency and sustainability are at the core. Our goal is to make thermal management more efficient worldwide – through precise, affordable, and versatile heat flow sensors KIT Founders’ Forgests.kit.edu.
Looking ahead
The article also highlights our next milestones: the development of a PIR semiconductor sensor, the implementation of a Proof of Concept (POC) in a mass-market product, and the serial production of our heat flow sensors sts.kit.edu.
